Intelligent Bus Utility System (Economics)

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Francis N. Tolentino today met with Filipino inventor Elma Arboleras, who presented her international award-winning Intelligent Bus Utility System or iBus System.

Arboleras' iBus System recently garnered in London the British Invention Award for 2011 for "Outstanding Contribution and Application of Innovation for the Public Transport System". She was the only Filipina to participate in the prestigious convention.

The iBus System was invented particularly to address endemic problems in Metro Manila bus transportation such as loading and unloading or overstaying at unauthorized stops, straddling two lanes which causes choke points at major arteries and overspeeding.

The System uses machine-readable tags to digitally identify a vehicle to become part of a database where computers are then used to handle its daily operation. It can detect whether buses are properly positioned at designated stops. If improperly positioned, the System will not allow passengers to disembark or alight. System overrides are allowed for emergencies, but these would be validated by the MMDA Metrobase.

"There are existing digital tag service providers, but the beauty of the iBus System is that it is 100% Filipino," said Tolentino, who promised to let Arboleras present her System next week to Metro Manila bus operators. "We will also help test the concept in a designated area for around ten buses," he added.

"I am grateful for the support extended by Chairman Tolentino," said Arboleras, who promised to continue enhancing the iBus System.-MMDA — ARA (source:http://www.radyonatin.com/story.php?storyid=1439)

I'm proud to be a Filipino. It's good thing that they invent that kind of system. It really helps a lot for both the passengers and the drivers. It lessens the accidents, traffics, and bad attitudes of both the passengers and the drivers. It also helps the MMDAs to monitor the roads. Hence, all I can say is,  "The Best ka Filipino!".

After reveiwing the article above, I was just wondered if how will the system response during the emergencies. What if there's a bomb in the bus? Will the system overrides? What if the system will not work properly during emergencies? Is there another way or any alternative that they can use during those emergencies? These are the questions that popped in my mind when I heard and red about the High Tech Utility Bus which is the iBus System.

Another questions popped in my mind is about the time limit alloted for loading and unloading of the passengers. Is there any screen or monitor that displays the remaining time before the door closed? What if there's someone stucks in the the door while it closes? Will the system have sensitivity and automatically re-open the door for that someone can properly get in or get out from the bus?

Well, I hope that when they implement that iBus System, they already assured the safety of the people not only in casual events but also in the most unexpected events. Just like forecasting the effects of their project in the Philippines. And also I hope that they extend their project in the different area of the Philippines. For it will helps our economy through promote safety and security in our country, (to ensure that the Hong Kong Hostage will no longer happen) this will attract more tourist and investors that helps our country to grow.
